AARP members meet

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, May 14, at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street, South Paris. A dinner of oven baked chicken with all the fixings will be served at noon. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, May 11.

The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and will include installation of officers for 2012. Don’t forget to bring something to contribute to the Food Pantry.

The program will be a fun time with singer Sammi Angel and her two dogs, one of which is also a recognized “singer.”

Hands-on art festival

BRIDGTON — The ninth annual children’s Hands-On Art Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Stevens Brook Elementary School.

Fundraiser benefits pets

NORWAY — Toll Booth Fundraiser to benefit Responsible Pet Care will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on Fair Street.

Pet owners with dogs on leashes are invited to stand at the edge of Fair Street. Participants will help to wave and say thank you for donations given to help homeless pets.

This is a “Be Kind to Animals Week” activity. For information call 743-8679.

Perennial plant sale

NORWAY — A perennial plant sale will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the junction of Alpine and Main streets, across from the high school.

Baptist Church supper

OTISFIELD — The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church will hold a public supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Menu will include favorite casseroles and beans. Gluten-free options will be available. The dinner will help support the Deacons Fund, which helps people in need in the area. The church is on Rayville Road, off Route 121.

Indoor yard, craft sale

PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold an indoor yard and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Paris Fire Department, Western Avenue, South Paris.

Honey Bee Club workshop

PARIS — The Oxford Honey Bee Club will hold a workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Cooperative Extension Office, Route 26.

Ken Records will demonstrate splitting bees and making a new nuke. The workshop is geared to newcomers, but everyone is welcome.

PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host a free Facebook for Seniors program, which will be broken down into three two-hour sessions. Part 1, Building your Facebook Account, will by Monday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Part 2, Privacy Settings in Facebook, will be Tuesday, May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Part 3, Adding Photos and Making Posts, will be Tuesday, May 29, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

History intern sought

BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society has announced that, thanks to generous financial support from BHS life member Michael Swift Stowell of Flagler Beach, Fla., it will again sponsor an eight-week high school history internship for qualified students in grades 9 through 12 at Gould Academy and Telstar Regional High School.

Applicants should be between 14 and 18 years of age, possess a strong interest in learning about local and regional history and be highly motivated, honest and reliable. A group of retired educators will review all applications for this summer position, select candidates to be interviewed and make recommendations to the society’s executive director.

Applications must be received at the society’s office at 10 Broad St. by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25. A decision on the successful applicant will be made by Friday, June 15, with the internship beginning on July 1 and continuing through late August.

The internship provides a stipend of $1000 which is paid in two installments. The successful applicant may be involved in museum tours, special event planning, oral history projects, collections management, exhibit preparation and other museum-related activities with highly qualified professionals and volunteers.
