AUBURN — Councilors will get their first look Monday at three alternatives for building a new ice skating complex.
Ravi Sharma said staff has looked at three possible locations for a new ice arena with two ice surfaces. It would replace the city’s Ingersoll Ice Arena in Pettengill Park.
One plan involves sharing space with the YMCA, Sharma said. The YMCA is planning a new recreation complex off Stetson Road and east of Center Street.
Sharma said he can’t discuss the other sites until Monday’s meeting.
“This is just mainly to get it out to the public and the council and get some feedback,” Sharma said.
The discussion is scheduled during the council’s workshop meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Auburn Hall.
Sharma said the new ice surfaces would replace Ingersoll, which is home to several hockey programs, from youth hockey to adult leagues.
That includes the boys’ high school hockey teams from Edward Little, Leavitt and Poland-Gray/New Gloucester, and the combined girls’ hockey programs from Edward Little and Leavitt Area high schools.
It would also include the newly combined Auburn Youth Hockey and the Lewiston Area Youth Hockey League. Last season, the two leagues had more than 950 players enrolled.
Sharma said his presentation will focus on the amenities the building would need, potential floor plans, how much room it would need and building sites being considered.
