Adams, the assistant to the city administrator, is fielding suggestions from throughout the United States, and even one from Europe, on how to handle Lewiston’s pigeon problem. Wire devices now prevent the birds from roosting on the City Building, but downtown merchants are still plagued with the problem of pigeon droppings. Officials have tried everything from “scary” rubber snakes (the birds loved playing with them) to poisoned grain, which was not well received by pedestrians who watched birds die at their feet.
