History intern sought

BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society has announced that, thanks to generous financial support from BHS life member Michael Swift Stowell of Flagler Beach, Fla., it will again sponsor an eight-week high school history internship for qualified students in grades 9 through 12 at Gould Academy and Telstar Regional High School.

Applicants should be between 14 and 18 years of age, possess a strong interest in learning about local and regional history and be highly motivated, honest and reliable. A group of retired educators will review all applications for this summer position, select candidates to be interviewed and make recommendations to the society’s executive director.

Applications must be received at the society’s office at 10 Broad St. by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25. A decision on the successful applicant will be made by Friday, June 15, with the internship beginning on July 1 and continuing through late August.

The internship provides a stipend of $1000 which is paid in two installments. The successful applicant may be involved in museum tours, special event planning, oral history projects, collections management, exhibit preparation and other museum-related activities with highly qualified professionals and volunteers.

Area quilters to meet

RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street.

To participate in the evening’s fabric swap, bring 30 6.5-inch squares of any shade of green fabric, cut from 100 percent cotton material that has been washed, dried and ironed.

Show and tell, donations, questions, quilting and sewing tips are all part of the meeting. All area quilters welcome. For more information, call 562-7050.
