JAY — Police charged a third man Wednesday with breaking into a local barn in late April. A Geiger counter, tools and gun clips were stolen.
Gary Choate, 25, of Jay was charged with of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and violation condition of release, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Choate was a passenger in a vehicle stopped Wednesday night by Jay police officer Michael Mejia, White said Thursday.
Jeston L. Davis, 20, of North Jay and Joshua Peaslee, 25, of Jay were arrested last month in connection with the case.
White said previously that a barn on East Dixfield Road was broken into on the evening of April 25 and items stolen. By the time police arrived at the barn the suspects had left, because they had access to a police scanner, White had said.
Officer Russell Adams talked with neighbors that led him to a nearby home with items lying outside that the occupants said were not theirs.
Franklin County Sheriff Cpl. Nathan Bean and his tracking dog, Diesel, were led to Davis who was talking with Adams.
Arrest warrants were issued for the other two suspects at the time.
