LEWISTON — Mary Jane “Lila” Caron, 83, of Sabattus died Thursday, May 10, at Central Maine Medical Center with her loving family at her side. She was born in Orono, Oct. 21, 1928, the daughter of the late Henry and Lena Mazerolle. She attended local schools until moving to Lewiston and took a job at Clarke Shoe, where she met her husband Valmore Caron. They were married on June 29, 1946, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Sabattus. Together they worked, and with great love, raised their young family. Valmore Caron died in April 1983.

Mary Jane worked in the housekeeping department at St. Mary’s Hospital for 24 years before retiring in 1991, where she then began to focus her time on organizations like the Sabattus Senior Citizens, the Red Hat Ladies, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 of Sabattus, of which she was a lifetime member, past president and current chaplain, as well as being a member of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish.

She loved playing cards, dancing, traveling, being with her family, and especially putting a smile on another’s face.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Valmore Caron; a son, Alphee Caron and his wife, Jacqueline.

Though her name is Mary Jane, many close friends and relatives know her as Lila. She opened her heart to many people beyond family and for that she was called mom, memere, aunt, etc by countless.
