PORTLAND — The Maine Credit Union League recently honored five individuals for their contributions to the success of Maine’s credit unions.

The recipients were presented with awards May 4 in conjunction with the Maine Credit Union League’s annual meeting and convention in Portland.

The James M. Gratto Award for Outstanding Credit Union Manager went to Roland Poirier of Lewiston, president/CEO of Otis Federal Credit Union, in Jay. Poirier is a 35-year employee of the credit union movement, including the past 25 at Otis FCU. Through his leadership, the credit union has been able to give members a bonus dividend for the past six years. Both borrowers and savers have received a combined total of nearly $2.5 million in bonus dividends.

The Jeannette G. Morin Award for Outstanding Credit Union Employee was presented to Cindy Giroux of Dixfield, vice president of human resources and marketing at Oxford Federal Credit Union, in Mexico and Norway.

Giroux is retiring June 1 after 13 years with the credit union. She is recognized for thoughtfully sharing her insight and expertise while making sure the human portion of any decision is always the credit union’s first priority.

Other awards included: The Alexander Ferguson Award for Outstanding Credit Union Volunteer to Donn Goodwin of Orrington, board chairman at Brewer Federal Credit Union; the Maine CU League President’s Award for Outstanding League Volunteer to Tucker Cole of Raymond, president/CEO of Maine Education FCU; and the Diane L. Oceretko “People Helping People” Award to Johanna Dorr of Orland, loan officer and marketing coordinator at Seaboard Federal Credit Union.

Formed in 1938, the Maine Credit Union League is the state trade association for Maine’s 62 credit unions and 617,000 members, providing a variety of services and products to assist credit unions in meeting the needs of their membership.
