BETHEL — The SAD 44 board signed the 2012-13 budget warrant Monday night and set the first of two votes for 7 p.m. May 29 at the Helen C. Berry Auditorium at Telstar High School.

Superintendent David Murphy said residents of the five district towns will vote on 16 articles that comprise the proposed $9,989,269 general education budget. One article is for the proposed $157,866 adult and community education budget.

He said the general education budget is up 2.69 percent, or $261,969, from the current year’s operating figure.

The overall local share is up 1.27 percent. Andover’s share is up 2.80 percent; Bethel’s is up 1.3 percent; Greenwood’s is up 3.13 percent; and Newry’s is up 0.9 percent. Woodstock’s is down 0.2 percent.

No positions were eliminated and all educational programs were kept intact.

The local share of the adult education proposed budget is $79,068.

A referendum to validate the budget will be held June 12 in each town.

In other matters Monday, Telstar Middle School Principal Clark Rafford updated the board on the fourth annual Contractors’ Day scheduled for Saturday.

Murphy said a variety of interior and exterior projects will be completed at the Telstar Middle-High School complex by volunteers from area businesses, community members, parents and students. In the past, rooms have been painted, repairs made and gardens established.
