DEAR SUN SPOTS: Good morning! Thanks for the wonderful information you provide! Can you find out when Bates College and Bowdoin College will be holding their annual yard sales? — Kim via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To begin, I want to thank you for a very useful column that I enjoy reading every day.

My problem: I am looking for someone who will teach me how to sharpen an older bucksaw and to date have had no luck in finding that person.

If there is someone out there who would take a few minutes to show me this skill, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you. — Vic, 784-8503

ANSWER: Sun Spots knows of one possible source: Bob’s Sharpening at Country Press on Route 108 (474 Turner St.) in Canton, 597-2757.

Bob says setting bucksaws can be a little tricky and can break the teeth. Price for sharpening full-size bucksaw is $4.50, sharpen and set $6. For a bow saw (which Bob says is a modern version of the bucksaw), sharpening is $3.20; sharpen and set is $4.50.

Bob said he would also be happy to show a person how to sharpen their own bucksaw.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many thanks for your past help with our fundraisers and for your informative column.

The River Valley Animal Advocates will be having our annual plant sale/bake sale/raffle the weekend of June 2 and 3 at Rowe’s Afternoon Delight in Mexico.

This is the first of our two big fundraising events of 2012. In the last two years we have helped 214 cats to be spayed/ neutered and have rabies shots. Of those, 122 were females that could have produced more than 2,000 kittens in those two years.

We would very much appreciate any donations of plants, baked items or items for our raffle table. We can pick up items or dig flowers as well. Please call Brenda at 562-7316 or me at 597-2323

Thank you. — Becky, mcdonald6498 @roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Leeds Community Church will be celebrating its 60th anniversary Jan. 6, 2013. This will be the “Year of Jubilee.” On this day we are hoping to have a photo taken of the congregation now to put up with a picture of the first congregation.

We are looking for pictures, clippings, stories and any memories that anyone has. I know a lot of young adults and children have attended Sunday school, vacation Bible school and youth group, and many organizations have met there. Please put on your thinking cap.

On July 14, 2013, we plan to have a big barbecue and invite other churches and the ministers and interns who have preached in our church. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all the special events we are planning for 2013.

Please send any pictures, memories or stories to Charles Barker, 9 Dawns Way, Leeds, ME 04253, or to me at 17 Plains Road, Leeds, ME 04263. Thank you for any help you can give. — Marilyn Tripp, Leeds
