LEWISTON — Michael R. Duperey, 60, of Turner, died Wednesday, May 16, at Central Maine Medical Center. He was surrounded by family and friends. After several months of dealing with diabetic complications he was informed last week he had Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was taken unexpectedly and way too soon.

Michael was born August 1, 1951, in Lewiston. He was the son of Richard and Marilyn (Marshall) Duperey. He grew up in Auburn and played many different sports during his time attending Auburn schools. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1969. He then went on to college at the University of Maine. He became employed at Hall and Knight Co. shortly after college and was employed by them for many years. Over the past 10 years he has been an employee of the Sun Journal.

Mike met the love of his life, Debra Bellemare, on March 30, 1973. They were married six months later and have been married for more than 38 years. Mike loved to play sports and continued to play on a men’s softball league as an adult. He loved fishing and hunting and especially camping. He was very fond of the Moosehead Lake region and Acadia National Park. Most often you would find him and his family camping in Bar Harbor.

Mike loved his family very much and especially his three grandchildren. He loved being involved in their lives, whether it be taking them fishing or watching them play sports. He participated in all their activities and drove all over the state to watch them play. He was always there for his daughter and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Duperey, of Turner; his only child, daughter Laurie Duperey Barry and her husband, Joseph, of Turner and their children, Michael, Matthew and Kristen; his sister Patricia Leavitt and her husband, Ross and their daughter Rebeccah; his sister Ann Petty and her husband, Sean and their children Jadon and Cole; his wife’s family; and many dear friends.
