As I read the articles in the Sun Journal concerning state legislative matters, I notice the inordinate space and wordage devoted to the minority party Democrats. When they whine and object to a majority Republican position, they are quoted extensively. Should that be the major substance of the story?
The minority’s objections should not be the story’s focus. The story should clearly explain the contents of the Republican bill that was passed and why it was proposed. The Democrats’ opposition to the measure should be stated clearly. The headlines should not be slanted.
It will require some time to reverse the 36-year old mess the Democrats handed the Republicans, but it is getting done. Correcting the Turnpike Authority corruption and the State Housing Authority spending are two examples, along with paying the hospitals their overdue bills, reducing the multi-billion dollar debt to pension and health care funds and bringing overspending under control.
Those irregularities were among several that the Democrats chose to not question, as long as they were in the majority.
If correction of waste and corruption is to continue, Republicans should be elected. Androscoggin County has a great Republican delegation.
People are beginning to see through the faulty policies, overspending and mismanagement of the Democrats. The Democrats talk one way, but clearly act another.
Maine deserves better.
