Plastic surgery program

LEWISTON — “Everything You Wanted to Know About Plastic Surgery, But Didn’t Know Who To Ask” is the topic of a program set for Wednesday, May 23 at Central Maine Medical Center.

Plastic surgeons Alan Harmatz, M.D., and Charles Foley, M.D., and physician assistant Sarah Greven, from Central Maine Plastic Surgery, will host an informational session about cosmetic surgery, non-surgical aesthetic enhancements and skin care.

The program, which is free of charge and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. and will be presented in the Chairman’s Rooms, located on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

LEWISTON — “Freedom Stories: An Evening in the World of Playwright / Performer Rivera Sun Cook” will be the program at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. The event will feature spoken word poetry and a performance. Poland Spring Heritage Day

POLAND — The Poland Spring Heritage Day planning committee invites the public to attend the fifth annual Poland Spring Heritage Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26.

The family-friendly event is held on the grounds of Poland Spring Resort and Poland Spring Preservation Park on Route 26 in Poland Spring. There will be plenty of free entertainment including performances by The Delta Knights, a magician and more.

The kids can enjoy a rock climbing wall, carnival games, a local-celebrity dunk tank, bounce house, doughnut-eating contest and cow patty bingo. Poland Fire and Rescue Department’s burn demonstrations will teach fire prevention. There will be dozens of crafters, community tables and food for sale.

Tours of the historic properties will be offered in horse-drawn wagons. There is a free “Magic of Water” show, as well as tours of the Maine State Building, All Souls Chapel and the Bottling Museum and Springhouse. There will also be special exhibits by the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Society, the Maine Wildlife Park and other local attractions.

All proceeds benefit local charities and the Poland Spring Preservation Society.

Memorial Day activities

MONMOUTH — On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, the Monmouth American Legion Post 204 will host a parade and ceremony.

The North Monmouth parade will begin at the Community Church at 9 a.m. and proceed to the Veteran’s Monument for a brief ceremony.

The parade will reconvene immediately following the ceremony at Cumston Hall in Monmouth, proceeding at 10:30 a.m. down Main Street to the veteran’s monument for services, which will include songs by local artists, a memorial rifle and musket salute, and a brief message from Rep. Mel Newendike from Litchfield.

Chairs will be provided at the monument for veterans who are unable to march in the parade.

All active, National Guard, Reserve military personnel and veterans as well as Legionnaires and members of other veteran’s fraternal organizations from the Monmouth area are invited to participate in the parade, in uniform if desired.

Free car wash benefits Dempsey

AUBURN — On Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a free car wash at East Coast Mortgage Group, 316 Center St. All donations will benefit the Dempsey Challenge and is hosted by the JC’s Fitness Team. The rain date is June 16.

SAD52 plans trips

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education is featuring two trips  in June. Both are Saturday matinees in Boston. On June 2, it’s “Beauty and the Beast,” a Disney production. June 23 will be a trip to see “Mamma Mia.”

Weight loss surgery

TOPSHAM — Topsham Family Medicine will host an informational program about weight loss surgery from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6.

The interactive videoconference will feature bariatric surgeons and other members of the bariatric surgery program’s professional staff. They will provide a general overview of obesity and weight loss surgery options. The program will include a question and answer session.

The videoconference will originate from a live event being presented at Central Maine Medical Center.

Seating is limited, so early registration is advised. Those wishing to register for the videoconference should call 795-5710. There is no charge for participation.

The live event at CMMC will be held in the Chairmen’s Rooms on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building. Preregistration is not required for the Lewiston event.

Oak Hill reunion planned

LEWISTON — Oak Hill High School Class of 1991 will host a reunion Saturday, July 28, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Carriage House, 1119 Lisbon St.

The event will include a cash bar, DJ and hors d’oeuvres.
