RUMFORD — The ability to strike early and often served the Mountain Valley girls’ lacrosse team well in its final home game at the Hosmer Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

It proved to be a balanced offensive effort, with Ayla Allen scoring eight goals and Chelsea Bordeau adding six tallies, as the Falcons recorded a 21-11 triumph against Camden Hills. The rainy weather ceased, but the players endured humid conditions.

“This is the best game we’ve played all season,”said Allen, who had four goals in a loss to Edward Little the previous afternoon. “Everybody was into the game and the closest (Camden) got to us was five goals. But, five goals is nothing in lacrosse, so we knew we couldn’t afford to let up.”

Mountain Valley (4-7) scored three unanswered goals, including two by Allen just 22 seconds after Camden Hills (2-8) received a spark. Mia Maddox scored her third goal of the game 3:33 into the second half.

Bordeau snared a lead pass from Allen and finished off a rush by one-timing the ball past Camden Hills goalie Lindsay Bumbalo (eight saves).

“Our fast break was really working well,”said Bordeau, regarding a strong transition game. “We was able to pass the ball and spread the field, which (prevented) the (Camden) defense from getting back.”

At the same time, Mountain Valley received solid marks by defenders Abby Day, Alexa Fryover and Makayla White.

MV co-captain Emily Gallant had three goals and an assist in the second. She scored on a 50-yard rush, while Katie Puiia and Whitney Ruff each scored and assisted each other.

“I thought we was strong from the start,” said Mountain Valley coach Kristen Provencher, concerning a 9-4 lead at halftime. “The girls kept up their intensity level and that will be needed on Thursday against Oxford Hills. Last time, we had led by two goals at halftime, but they came back and beat us.”

The Falcons had grabbed a 7-1 lead on four goals by Allen, two by Bordeau and a wrap-around by Zayra Simard.
