YORK — Dr. Margaret Mary (Hopkins) Hannigan, 88, died Saturday, May 19.

She was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Mary (Downing) Hopkins. She was a graduate of Emmanuel College and Tufts Medical School. Margaret married Dr. Charles Hannigan, a Tufts classmate, Sept. 2, 1950.

She was a beloved dermatologist and friend to many in Lewiston-Auburn. She was a mentor in the Kittery School System, a Girl Scout leader and a eucharistic minister in her church community.

She leaves three sons, Charles A. Hannigan Jr. and his wife, Nancy Hannigan, of Tewksbury, Mass., John A. Hannigan of Brookline, Mass., and Thomas M. Hannigan of Biddeford; two daughters, Margaret Mary Hannigan of Auburn and Patricia M. Hannigan-Foster and her husband, David Foster, of York; and five grandchildren, Stuart, Emily and Margaret Foster and Colleen Hannigan and Amelia Hannigan.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine M. Hannigan; her husband, Dr. Charles A. Hannigan; and her three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Richard Hopkins.

Margaret is remembered for her love of life, family and friends.
