100 years ago, 1912
Probable cause was found against a 21-year-old man who is charged with breaking and entering the Mystic Theater, Lisbon Street, Lewiston, Wednesday morning. The young man belongs in Lewiston, altho he has been in Rhode Island for several months. To William Gray, manager of the theater, belongs the credit for the capture. Mr. Gray heard noises in the theater and on investigating for the third time, found the man with his hands on the cash drawer. Mr. Gray fired one shot from his 38-calibre revolver and came near shooting the man.

50 years ago, 1962
“Do your duty today and do it thoroughly is what I’ve always believed,” well-known area businessman Frank W. Winter said today on the occasion of his 100th birthday. The Second Avenue, Auburn, resident has lived a life which has run the gamut from rags to riches, right up the ladder of success. He recalled meeting such personalities as financier J.P. Morgan and orator William Jennings Bryan, who Winter said visited his Auburn home.

25 years ago, 1987
Corvette owners call themselves “Vetters” and consider themselves part of a very special group of people. Ray Faucher of Lewiston says there are a lot of new Corvette fanatics out there and he would like to hear from them. Faucher is president of the Mid-Maine Vettes, which has had a stable membership during hits eight-year existence.
