 DIXFIELD — Several people police say were involved in an underage drinking party in April are scheduled to appear in 11th District Court on Aug. 7.

Dixfield Police Department Chief Richard Pickett said officers from the Mexico Police Department, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Rumford Police Department and Dixfield department converged on a gravel pit on the Canton Point Road at about 10:30 p.m. April 28. About 12 young people were at the scene.

Arrested on a charge of furnishing alcohol to minors was Jacob B. Brooks, 22, of Peru. He was released from the Dixfield Police Department on $700 unsecured bail.

Given a court summons on charges of furnishing a place for alcoholic consumption, illegal possession of alcohol, burning prohibited material and burning without a permit, was a 17-year-old boy from Dixfield. He was released to a guardian.

A 15-year-old Oxford girl was issued a summons on a charge of illegal possession of alcohol by consumption. She was released to a relative.

Also give summonses on charges of illegal possession of alcohol by consumption were: Kirby R. Averill, 19, of Prospect Avenue, Rumford; Steven Letarte, 18, of Prospect Avenue, Rumford; and Charles Wilkins, 18, of Peru.

In other police news, Pickett said his department had responded to 34 complaints from May 23-31. Among them are the following.

Theft

A Marble Lane resident reported at 2 p.m. May 29 that someone took several five-gallon containers of gasoline from his property valued at $100.

Accidents

John O’Brien, 78, of New Port Richey, Fla., collided with a moose at 9:11 p.m. May 30 near the intersection of Route 2 and the Common Road. A passenger, Shirley O’Brien, 76, also of Florida, was taken to Rumford Hospital with minor injuries. O’Brien’s 2005 Chrysler sustained $5,500 damage. The moose was killed.

Dan Michell, no age available, of Dixfield collided with a turkey as he was driving his 2006 Honda Goldwing motorcycle at 6:30 a.m. May 31 on the Canton Point Road. Damage to the motorcycle windshield, vent and dashboard was estimated at $600.
