DEAR SUN SPOTS: As you probably know, the Chick-A-Dee restaurant in Turner has closed. I have a $30 gift certificate for it. Could you let me know who I could contact about redeeming it? Thank you. — Webster, Turner

ANSWER: Sun Spots was about to answer and tell Webster he was out of luck when she received the following letter.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: While the original request for Lewiston Chick-A-Dee honoring gift certificates from Turner was that they would not honor them, there were several days where their menus were printed that changed it to they will honor the gift certificates from Turner.

Please update your info, so people will be able to get their money’s worth. Thanks. — Jan McDonald, motor42@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: Since Sun Spots had previously been told the Lewiston restaurant was not honoring the gift certificates for the Turner store, she thought she’d better go to the top and find out for sure.

She called the Lewiston Chick-A-Dee and spoke to the owner, who said that for the first two weeks after the Turner restaurant closed he was not honoring them, but now he is. He said he has changed his advertising to reflect that fact.

So those people with gift certificates from the Turner Chick-A-Dee can now head to Lewiston!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column daily and enjoy it very much. I am looking for a Catholic catechism that was used during the 1930s. It has to be French.

Thank you for all that you do for seniors. — T.L., Lewiston

ANSWER: For help with your question, Sun Spots turned to James Myall, coordinator of the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine in Lewiston, who said:

“We have several catechisms in our collection. I’ve identified one publication from 1941 that may be of interest to your reader. It’s an official French translation of the Baltimore catechism, which was the standard in the U.S. during this time. I’m afraid we don’t lend materials out from the collection, but anyone is welcome to visit the collection, and we can make copies of most items.”

You’ll find the collection at 51 Westminster St., Lewiston, 753-6545. They are open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your tireless effort to answer the many questions sent you, making others happy, including myself.

Robin Dow Senior Citizens, an organization for people 55 years of age or older that meets twice monthly, has brought enjoyment and companionship for many members from the local communities and surrounding Maine cities and towns throughout the years.

An attempt is being made to piece together enough information to form a history of the organization. It is believed that Ruby Dow is the original founder. More detailed information regarding the club, for whom the club is named, the year it was founded, etc., is desired. It would be appreciated if family members, too, could answer this request.
