DEAR SUN SPOTS: Like so many, we very much enjoy your column.

Would you be willing to print this, please? We are participating in a festival in Portland with an old-fashioned photo arcade where children and adults wear costumes and can have their pictures taken.

We are trying to find fun (even ugly!) bridal gowns and tuxedo jackets in ice cream colors. We can convert white lace curtains into gowns, if anyone has those.

The festival is just over a week away, so we have a bit of a time crunch. Unfortunately, we didn’t think we’d run into such problems finding what we need, and secondhand shops have proven unsuccessful or beyond our limited funds.

It’s just for fun, so damaged clothing is fine. All clothing will then be donated to Goodwill afterward.

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. — Lew, Greene, 946-7777, info@inyourownwords.me

ANSWER: Any interest in going 1970s style? If so, the next writer might be able to help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am cleaning out my attic and have some 1970s clothing that I would be happy to give to a theater group or anyone who could use them. I have ladies dresses, two pairs of high boots, a coat and a man’s suit, as well as some other items. Please contact me if you want them. — Shirley, Dixfield, 562-7778

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You said you knew of several places that would be interested in the yard goods I have. I had no response to my June 4 request. Please forward names or groups. — dixontrees@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots should have specified that she doesn’t have a list of names, because the people who want fabric change. However, those who offer freebies are usually inundated, and Sun Spots often receives requests for fabric. She searched her archive and found the following recent request:

* On May 22, Karen Flagg, 946-2016, kflagg_conkerr@yahoo.com, asked for pillowcases or fabric for a cancer charity.

Sun Spots also recalls a local group that taught girls to sew and has asked for sewing items, but she can’t remember the name of that organization and couldn’t find it with other searches. Perhaps the leader of that group or others will respond this time.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I noticed this morning (June 4) someone asking about giving fabric away, I also have a lot of fabric that I would like to donate.

Can you tell me the names of the groups and possible phone numbers? Thank you. — Judy Fuller, judithfuller@mac.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you please add Mainly Sewing to your list of local seamstresses? I have been a seamstress for more than 30 years and started my own business about a year ago, operating in Lewiston as Seamstress Services.

I recently moved to Auburn and have a new address and a new name, Mainly Sewing, 114 Western Ave., 783-9406.

I also teach sewing for beginners and intermediate learners, age 17 and up, at Auburn Adult Education, and offer private lessons as well.

My services at Mainly Sewing include boat upholstery and covers, wedding and prom dresses, custom cushions, alterations and, coming soon, digitized embroidery. — Mary Tucker
