Lewiston’s terminal for the Portland-Lewiston Interurban Electric Railway is being constructed with rapid strides, and the walls are already up and soon the roof will be put on the building, which fronts on Middle Street. This building will contain a waiting room, offices of the company and a car barn. The interior finish of the cars will be mahogany and the upholstery will be in plush. The cars, which accommodate 52 passengers, will contain a smoking compartment, toilet rooms, and every convenience for the riders. Unlike other electric cars, there will be no advertisements of chewing gum, sarsaparila or vegetable compound. W.S. Libbey of Lewiston, owner of the road, will not tolerate an ad on the interior of any of the cars.

Lewiston police today were looking for a “little fellow” burglar who apparently got himself locked into the F.W. Woolworth store on Lisbon Street last night, and then attempted to break into the store safe after all the employees left for the evening. Police found small footprints in an outer office where $10 was taken from a locked drawer.

Once labeled the part of the city with a “reputation,” Lewiston’s Lower Lisbon Street has undergone many changes since the city began its effort to clean up the gateway to its downtown three years ago. Property owners are beginning to spruce up their businesses. Several have done facade work and interior renovations. Bar signs have been removed, trees planted and street lighting improved.
