CARABASSETT VALLEY — On May 4-6, the Maine Elks Association elected and installed its slate of officers for the 2012-13 association year at their 83rd annual State Convention held at Sugarloaf USA.

Installed as state president was John Nicholson of the Millinocket Elks Lodge 1521. Nicholson, in his opening remarks, congratulated outgoing president Wayne Cotterly of the Lewiston Elks Lodge 371 and the association officers and committeemen for their hard work and dedication to the association and for having a successful year.

In his acceptance speech, Nicolson indicated that his theme for the coming year would be “Elks helping to move Maine forward,” referring to moving the Elk programs and charitable endeavors forward throughout the year. He stated that his focus this year was to continue support of the Maine Elks programs such as the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, scholarships, dictionary project, drug awareness, veterans, hoop shoot and soccer shoot.

Installed as officers of the association for the year were John Nicholson, Millinocket, state president; Dwayne Guy, Rockland, president elect; Tom Callahan, Augusta, first vice-president; Donald Piper, Ellsworth, second vice-president; Philip O’Brion, Farmington, secretary; Jeffrey Neal, Millinocket, treasurer; Michael Powers, Houlton, chaplain; Kyle Smart, Old Town, Tiler; Claris Ranger, Farmington, administrative assistant; and David VanDine, Millinocket, sgt.-at-arms.

Serving as installing officer was Past State President Michael Powers of the Houlton Elks Lodge 835.
