The Regional School Unit 5 $24,905,147 budget was approved by voters in Durham, Freeport and Pownal by a wide margin, 1,767-747.

Town clerks reported a very low voter turnout.

Durham voted, 314-247, in favor, out of more than 3,000 eligible voters. Freeport, 1,258-354, out of more than 6,000 registered voters in favor. Voters in Pownal opposed, 146-105. The total number of registered voters was not available.

According to the superintendent’s office, the budget is $574,997 more than this year. Durham’s share will be $3,447,212; Freeport’s, $13,631,935; and Pownal’s, $1,760,851.
