PORTER — A Worcester, Mass., man is accused of hitting a Porter man in the head with the butt of a shotgun over money owed for cocaine.

Police say Jermaine V. Whindleton, 26, was charged with Class A robbery as well as assault, criminal threatening and reckless conduct. On Wednesday, his bail was set at $20,000 cash.

According to a report by Trooper Joseph Bureau of the Maine State Police, the attack allegedly took place at a home on School Street in Porter. The complainant told Bureau that Whindleton, who goes by “Cin,” demanded $100 from the victim as payment for cocaine.

The victim told Whindleton the cocaine wasn’t satisfactory. At that point, the report said, Whindleton took out a shotgun, hit the victim in the head with the butt, and pointed it at him, demanding the money in his pockets and his cell phone. Whindleton is alleged to have counted to three, telling the victim he’d shoot him if he couldn’t supply the money owed. The victim was able to escape out the back door.

Whindleton told Bureau the victim owed him money but denied that any fight took place. The shotgun was recovered, but the man who had it said he had been told to wipe any fingerprints from it.

In South Paris District Court on Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne asked for $20,000 cash bail due to the seriousness of the crime. Judge Paul Cote agreed.

Whindleton is to have no contact with the victim or with another witness. He’s set to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Sept. 4.
