LEWISTON — Vincent J.P. Leblanc, 90, of Sabattus died Friday, June 15, at the Marshwood Health Care Facility following a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 10, 1921, the son of Edmond and Lydia

(Levesque) Leblanc and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was educated in local schools and then had graduated from the High School of Sacred Heart Victoriaville in Quebec, Canada. He later attended sheet metal school in Pittsfield, and worked in the shipyard in South Portland, building Liberty ships for the war.

Vincent then entered the U.S. Navy in October 1943, and became a meteorologist on the USS Cooke Inlet, and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, where they rescued downed pilots near Iwo Jima.

After separation from the Navy, he attended and graduated from the University of Maine Class of 1950, majoring in Civil Engineering. He was employed in New York City and in Boston for more than 10 years and did a stint for the U.S. Government in Greenland.

Returning to Maine in 1962, he was self-employed as a registered land surveyor in civil engineering. He was also a resident engineer for Steel Service Center in Lewiston. He did many commercial and residential construction jobs in the whole central Maine area.

He was a dedicated traveler, who traveled from the east to west coast visiting his family and friends. He was an avid skier, hiker and hockey fan.

He was a longtime parishioner of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Parish.

He is survived by two nephews, John and Peter Myrand of Lewiston; three nieces, Martha Griffin of Kennebunkport, Jeanne Young of Wells and Rachel Shurtleff of Old Orchard Beach; and many other special nieces and nephews who lived throughout the United States.
