TURNER — Selectmen invite residents to meet the new town manager and Public Works director from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Town Office.

Scott LaFlamme begins his duties as town manager July 1. He succeeds Eva Leavitt

“I am fortunate to get to work with Eva for a month before she leaves,” he said, as he praised Leavitt, selectmen, the community spirit and the large number of volunteers who serve the town.

He said he sees little that needs changing, but expects to bring a new financial outlook without burdening taxpayers.

LaFlamme is a recent graduate of the University of Maine with an undergraduate degree in public management and a master’s degree in public administration. He served three years on the Old Town Town Council at the age of 19. He also served several internships in town government as part of his education.

Jack Moultrie has accepted the position of Public Works director and will also assume his duties July 1. He will be responsible for the town solid waste transfer station, parks and cemeteries, as well as the road department.

The newly created position was approved by voters at the annual town meeting.

Moultrie said he’s excited to be serving the town. He has an extensive background in heavy equipment, construction and public works. He has consulted with several towns on their pavement management programs, he said.

He has been successful in winning grants for other towns and expects to apply for some for projects in Turner.

The Massachusetts native worked on a logging crew in Maine as a youth. He said that from that time on he has wanted to live here.

He and his wife live on a farm in Chesterville and have five grown children.
