LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for cancer patients and their families, clinicians and caregivers interested in learning coping skills from cancer survivor Hope Douglas and the inspiration she found in injured birds. “Soaring with Hope” will take place Thursday, June 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room A.

Douglas, founder of Wind Over Wings, a nonprofit raptor rehabilitation and education center, will introduce a golden eagle, great horned owl, saw-whet owl and a red-tailed hawk which are unable to be released back to the wild due to injury. After developing breast cancer in 2007, Douglas found inspiration in the heartwarming stories.

“All of them were badly hurt, but that didn’t let it stop them,” said Douglas. “They taught me how to carry on with dignity. That’s how I approached cancer.”

Preregistration is available by calling 795-8250, 1-877-336-7287 or online at www.dempseycenter.org.
