When I drove down College Street recently, I noticed that a layer of pavement had been ground off the top of the speed bump by the old school. I thought that monstrosity was going to be removed, not just given a haircut.

What part of “remove” doesn’t the city of Lewiston understand? Do they think they can lower that thing an inch and nobody will notice that it’s still there?

People who are driving at the posted speed limit still need to slow down to keep from damaging their cars — the speed bump isn’t gone.

Removal entails restoring that area to the same gradient as the surrounding street. I am sure it would be a lot cheaper to do it right before the paving is done than it would be to go back and fix it later.

Having a speed bump at a building that is barely safe enough to be used for storage is the worst idea Lewiston’s leaders have had in decades — since they took away half the parking spots on Lisbon Street and watched downtown die.
