DIXFIELD — Newly elected Selectmen Scott Belskis and Hart Daley brought up a variety of wind development matters at their first board meeting Monday night.
Both had sought a board seat largely because of the possibility that an industrial wind farm could be built on the Colonel Holman Mountain ridgeline by Patriot Renewables LLC, the Massachusetts company that has been working toward that goal for several years.
Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky said Daley proposed the establishment of a selectmen-appointed wind ordinance committee, rather than using a proposed ordinance developed by former Selectmen Norine Clarke and Stephen Donahue.
He also suggested that the town return $10,000 to Jay Cashman who had donated the money to the town on behalf of Patriot Renewables for use in wind-related research.
Skibitsky said Daley also questioned whether the town’s past wind moratorium could be put into effect. The town had had a wind moratorium while the proposed ordinance was being written.
Skibitsky said he was directed to check into the validity of the moratorium and to report back to the board.
All these wind-related questions, and more, will be further discussed at the board’s July 23 meeting. No action was taken Monday night.
