LEWISTON — L/A Arts will host an opening reception for “HumaniTy Expressed Visually,” an artistic collaboration involving students at Lewiston Middle School and Maranacook Community High School, on Friday, June 29.

Through the Lewiston Educational Achievement Program, an affiliate of L/A Arts, students studied and completed a project in logo design, animation and T-shirt printing, using stencils and block prints they generated.

The exhibit also features collaborative sculpture and LEAP students’ award-winning mural of images involving recycling done for EcoMaine’s “Rcollaborative sculptecycling is a Work of Art” project. The images were painted onto a silver bullet, an EcoMaine recycling dumpster, that will be moved around the state.

The goal of “HumaniTy Expressed Visually” is to expand students’ knowledge of their communities, enhance communication and foster self-awareness through hands-on, cultural exploration in the visual arts.

The reception will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the Community Gallery, 221 Lisbon St., in conjunction with Artwalk Lewiston Auburn.

The exhibit will be on view through July 20.
