PARIS — Firefighters from three towns quickly snuffed out a barn fire at Rosebeck Farm on East Oxford Road on Friday afternoon.
Fire Chief Brad Frost said he believed lightning from a quick-moving storm that blew through the area struck the metal support beam in the barn at 486 East Oxford Road. It set a dividing wall on fire.
“Luckily it didn’t extend to the second floor,” said Frost, where the hay is kept. The farm is owned by Sidney Record.
While there were cows in the barn at the time the fire started, Frost said they were able to put out the fire without moving them out. An unidentified person leaving the scene said a pig was taken out of the barn.
Firefighters were at the scene for about 30 minutes.
The family farm sells natural and fresh products, including beef and eggs.
The storm that blew through the area in the late afternoon brought high winds, heavy rain, thunder and lightning. There were no other storm-related problems, Frost said.
