PARIS — Award-winning comedian and storyteller Adam Ruben will share brutally honest and funny stories of the horrors of puberty on Saturday, July 7, at Celebration Barn.
He will present his one-man show, “Please Don’t Beat Me Up: Stories and Artifacts of Surviving Adolescence” at 8 p.m.
Ruben will discuss a class election gone awry and share embarrassing excerpts from his fifth-grade diary and a manifesto of self-pity written while sitting at home dateless during his 10th-grade homecoming dance.
Complete with video and audio clips, “Please Don’t Beat Me Up” was named one of the top five solo shows of 2011 by Maryland Theatre Guide.
Ruben, also a writer and molecular biologist, has, for more than a decade, performed at clubs, colleges and private venues across the country. He is the author of “Surviving Your Stupid, Stupid Decision to Go to Grad School,” published by Random House in 2010.
For eight years, he has taught an undergraduate stand-up comedy class at Johns Hopkins University. He has appeared on the Food Network’s “Food Detectives,: Science Channel’s “Head Rush,” and National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.”
Ruben travels the country performing “Please Don’t Beat Me Up” as a part of anti-bullying programs. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students/children. Call 743-8452.
