WEST PARIS — A car and a logging truck collided on Route 26 on Friday, backing up traffic for more than an hour. There were no injuries.
Deputy Chris Davis of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Harry Hutchinson, 66, of Andover, was driving north in his 2000 Dodge Intrepid and made a U-turn near J&K Sporting Goods, not seeing an oncoming logging truck.
Mark Farnum, 47, of Bryant Pond, was driving south and was unable to stop the truck to avoid hitting Hutchinson’s car. The truck jackknifed across the road, blocking traffic.
Neither driver reported injuries, Davis said. “Everybody was pretty lucky this time, I guess.”
The accident happened at about 3 p.m. and by 5 p.m. traffic was still backed up. Northbound traffic was backed up about a mile and a half, stretching down beyond Snow Falls. Several drivers shut off their cars and sat outside to wait for traffic to start moving again.
