DEAR SUN SPOTS: My father took me to see my first three Red Sox games sometime in 1964-65. If I had to guess, I would say July 1965. It was a weekend series against the Yankees. New York won the first two games, and the Sox won the third, behind Earl Wilson, I believe.

Do you know any way I can find out the dates of those games? I would also like to see the box scores, if that is possible. Thank you. — Joe, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots can think of a few ways you might be able to dig up this information, but it will require a bit of legwork.

The most obvious for Sun Spots to recommend would be old newspapers, either the Sun Journal or perhaps the Boston Globe. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can use the public library, either going online there or using the microfiche.

To check out the archives online, you can peruse old copies of the Lewiston Evening Journal and Daily Sun at http://tinyurl.com/2v2uu7x and http://tinyurl.com/334ehgd, respectively. The Boston Globe is at http://tinyurl.com/6smh5hv; there is a small fee to search it.

Sun Spots’ editor directed her to the Elias Sports Bureau, which has kept records for Major League Baseball and other sports since 1913. The “Elias Book of Baseball Records” is available for $19.95 and may contain some information that will help you. You can order it at www.esb.com.

The website is very limited and offers no further information, but Sun Spots found a mailing address: 500 5th Ave Suite 2140, New York, NY 10110-2199; and phone: 212-869-1530.

Perhaps readers will have some additional suggestions.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My son’s photo was in the paper recently, and I would like to get some more copies of that paper. How do I do that? How much do they cost? — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with Sandra Bruno, customer service manager for the Sun Journal, who said that the Sun Journal usually has some extra back copies. Customer Service keeps the current year and may or may not have all the dates depending if specific dates have sold out.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You did an excellent job answering Peter from Auburn’s question on June 18. I just wanted to follow up and let you know that there is a facility right here in Auburn that buys many different types of sorted recycled paper.
