FARMINGTON — Parades, fireworks, barbecues and more are all set for Independence Day celebrations in Franklin County.
Some July 4 celebrations taking place Tuesday and Wednesday include:
* Carrabassett Valley: July 4 Celebration in Town Park, 1001 Carriage Road (behind the town office) starts at noon on Wednesday, July 4, with opening of pool and food booth. Children’s parade begins at 12:30 p.m. from Tufulio’s parking lot to town park; 1-5 p.m. music by Kathy’s Karaoke; 1:30 p.m. Magic Show; 3-5 p.m. firetruck rides; 5:30-9 p.m. music by the band, Coyote Drifters, and at 9:15 p.m., fireworks.
* Farmington: Flagg Family fishing derby for children ages 3 to 10 starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Rollo Pond on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington. Sponsored by the Farmington Recreation Department, fishing opens to the public by 9 a.m. For more information, call 778-3464.
* Farmington: July 4 Parade, sponsored by the Farmington Rotary Club, begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in downtown Farmington. Theme is “Celebrating Summer in Maine.” Participant registration and lineup starts at 9 a.m. at Quebec and Perkins streets. The parade route goes up Quebec Street and down Perham-Broadway to Main, left on Main to South Street and back up High to the parking lot at Perkins and Quebec. * Industry: Independence Day celebration fireworks take place Saturday, July 7, at Wing’s Field off Route 148. Gates open at 3 p.m. Open air concert featuring three local bands begins at 4 p.m.; fireworks at dusk followed by more music. Sponsored by Industry Fire and Rescue with all proceeds used to purchase rescue equipment.
* Jay/Livermore Falls: Parade held Tuesday, July 3, starts at 5 p.m. from Memco in Jay and continues through both towns to Ware Butler in Livermore Falls. Lineup starts at Memco at 3 p.m. Chicken barbecue for $8 held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars also features old-fashioned music. Fireworks in Livermore Falls takes place at sunset Tuesday from across the river at Spruce Mountain, weather permitting. * Rangeley: Events take place in Rangeley on Tuesday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to dusk. The day begins with a children’s parade at 10 a.m. starting at Rangeley Inn to downtown and Park Road; Rangeley Health and Wellness sponsors duck race on Haley Pond following children’s parade; silent auction from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. near Rangeley Chamber of Commerce, Arts and Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across from chamber; annual chicken barbecue, 4:30 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd; fireworks, lakeside, begin at dusk, rain date for fireworks July 4.
