BAR HARBOR — If you want to get a taste of one of the nation’s top five ice creams — according to ABC’s “The View” anyway — drive no farther than this coastal town and head to Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. Or if you’re trying to save gas, you could visit its satellite shop in Portland.

Owner/founder Linda Parker will make an appearance on The View this Tuesday, July 3rd, at 11 a.m., at which time the small ice cream maker will be profiled as one of the top five ice cream makers in the nation.

“The call from The View came completely out of left field. Given that the four other companies they profiled have been around for decades and are quite well known, we took it as a great honor to be included,” Parker said in a release.

“The View” asked each ice cream maker to bring samples of three interesting flavors. Parker went with Salt Brigadeiro, Bay of Figs and Atlantic Stout with Fudge.”

Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is an independently owned local producer of small-batch ice creams and sorbets. Their entire product line is handmade in small five-gallon batches, according to the company. Parker founded the company in 2006. It operates two retail locations in Bar Harbor and a third in Portland.

The company has been previously named one of the top 25 ice cream makers in the nation by Food and Wine magazine, “Best of New England” by Yankee Magazine and one of the top 20 artisan ice cream companies by Mother Earth News.
