FARMINGTON — Members of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will offer free hot dogs on the front lawn after the Fourth of July parade in Farmington.

Everyone is welcome to one free hot dog. Donations will be accepted for the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund.

The Franklin Area Ecumenical Ministry coordinates the fundraising and the money pays for one 50-gallon delivery of heating fuel per season to needy households. The program is administered by Western Maine Community Action, Community Services personnel.

During the 2011-12 heating season, 206 deliveries worth $38,961 were made to residents of Franklin County. Households eligible for the federal Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program received less than half the previous year’s amount of assistance, due to federal cuts.

Many Ecumenical Heating Fund recipients are not eligible for LIHEAP.

In addition to the support provided by the United Way of the Tri-County Area, many other churches and donors send contributions through the winter months. Contributions may be sent to ECU HEAT, P.O. Box 147, Farmington, ME 04938. Gifts made by check are tax deductible and will be acknowledged.

Donation boxes will be available Wednesday at the hot dog giveaway.

For more information, contact the ECU HEAT coordinator, the Rev. Susan Crane, at 778-2163. Henderson Memorial Baptist Church is at of Main and Academy streets.
