DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking to rent an Escalera stove lift, it resembles a combination of a dolly and a forklift. Many stove shops use them to move their merchandise around the display floors. The few stove shops I have contacted do not rent out their units and several rental equipment shops either don’t have one or don’t understand my question.

However, I only need one for a short time to raise my stove about 8 inches while I put more tiles under the legs.

Could you ask your readers if they know of anyone who rents one or where I might find someone who has one? I would be grateful if they were willing to bring to my home for a short period of time. ANSWER: Sun Spots looked up this gizmo online at www.escalera.com and realized she’d seen them used many times by men delivering appliances such as refrigerators and stoves. Hopefully, someone will have one you can rent or borrow.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have tried many different methods to take pitch off my car (June 21 column). They all worked. But the best, easiest and least messy was a cotton ball with a drop of hand sanitizer. I did wipe the spots I cleaned with water following the removal of the pitch. Or better yet, hose down the car. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots is not surprised that hand sanitizer worked. One of the methods recommended consistently online was alcohol, which is a major ingredient in hand sanitizer.

Another thing that was recommended was hand cleaner. That might work, but be careful not to use the ones that have grit in them, as that would scratch the paint.
