Norlands open Tuesdays, Thursdays

LIVERMORE — Throughout July and August, the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will be open every Tuesday and Thursday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for “Living History Tours.” The last full tour starts at 3 p.m.

Visitors to the site are engaged by people who portray a local person, someone you might have met had you visited in 1870.

It could be someone cooking in the farmer’s cottage, if it’s not too hot, or a Washburn granddaughter, Ada Washburn or Anna Maud Washburn, in the 1867 Washburn Mansion, or the school ma’am in the one-room schoolhouse who will encourage you to practice your mental arithmetic and penmanship using a quill pen under her watchful eye.

$10 adult, $6 age 12 and under. No appointments are needed. For more information visit www.norlands.org or call 897-4366.

Kingfield Days parade seeks floats

KINGFIELD — It’s time to get floats ready for the 2012 Kingfield Days parade. The theme is “Music Across Time.”

A huge trailer is not necessary for an entry; a pickup, a wagon, a bike with music from any era will work. Organizers hope to see antique modes of transportation as well.

The parade is Saturday, July 21, at noon, starting at Narrow Gauge Park (enter at the south end). The parade line up starts getting ready between 10:30 and 11 a.m. to ensure all information is available for the MC announcement in the downtown area. The parade route continues from Narrow Gauge to the south end of town.

For information call Sharon at 265-4717 or Myra at 265-2700.
