Car wash for Helaina Lake

FARMINGTON — A car wash to benefit wounded soldier Sgt. Helaina Lake will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Labonville Store, 349 Wilton Road, Routes 2 and 4.

Cards and letters may be sent to Sgt. Helaina Lake, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 8901 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD 20889-5600.

Farmers’ Market changes hours

WAYNE — The hours for the Wayne Farmers’ Market have changed. The market, held in the village by the Mill Pond, will now take place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

For BLTs, take home locally made and grown bread, bacon, lettuce and tomato from the vendors. Also in season are blueberries, raspberries and summer vegetables.

The market also hosts an open mike most weeks. Musicians wanting to play should contact Stan at standavis@yahoo.com.

Simple Truth concert July 15

FARMINGTON — Simple Truth, a Maine-based Christian trio, will be featured in concert by the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Sunday, July 15, at 6 p.m. The concert will be held in the sanctuary, rather than on the lawn. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be received for the group. Simple Truth CDs will be sold following the concert for $12, or all three for $30.

Simple Truth sings folk style lyrics of their own creation telling about the simple truth of the gospel.

All are welcome. Henderson Memorial Baptist Church is at 110 Academy St.

Program on night animals

NEW SHARON — Nocturnal creatures will be the topic in the Dream Big – Read! program from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at the Jim Ditzler Memorial Library.

Programs will be held for the next three Tuesdays and include the topics of stargazing, flyers and dare to dream. All programs are free.

The 2012 independent summer reading program is open to ages preschool through young adult. For more information, call 779-1128.

Daughters plan summer outing

JAY — The Daughters of Isabella Circle 677 from St. Rose of Lima held their monthly social on June 27 at the parish hall.

The co-chairwomen for the supper were Sue Mancine and Mary Castonguay. The ladies enjoyed a supper, with finger rolls made by Sue and Mary and dessert made by Anna Lake and Yvonne Demillo.

A raffle for a bonsai tree was won by Brittany Castonguay.

Vice Regent Dorothy Morgan raffled off an afghan; the winner was Louise Chabot. Regent Denise Rodzen had a bag of prizes that were won by those correctly answering questions.

The group voted to hold the summer outing at Lafleur’s Restaurant in Jay. It will take place Wednesday, Aug. 8. Social hour will be at 5 and supper will be at 6. Menu will include a variety of dishes to choose from. The cost of the meal is $14.95. Everyone is asked to bring a nonperishable item for the food basket that will be raffled off at the fall bazaar.
