AUBURN — The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County awarded two scholarships of $1,000 each.

Sarah E. Giraldo, a recent graduate of Lisbon High School, plans to double major in art and biology with a goal of becoming a doctor of sports medicine. Giraldo will be attending Simmons College in Boston. She is the daughter of Hernan and Mary Giraldo.

Giraldo’s many school activities include Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Art, Drama and Interact clubs, varsity soccer, basketball and tennis, Science Olympiad, Envirothon and various art projects for the school.

Thomas E. Hite, a recent graduate of Leavitt Area High School, plans to major in ancient history with a goal of becoming a professor of ancient history. He will be attending Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Hite’s various school activities include International Thespians, Hornets in Harmony a cappella group, peer tutor, Latin and Math clubs, a member of the basketball team and junior class treasurer. Hite is also a very active youth member at St. Philips Church in Auburn.

The recipients were selected on the basis of scholarship, citizenship and financial need.
