JAY — Police charged an Anson man Sunday with operating under the influence following a one-vehicle crash on Main Street in Jay that closed one lane of traffic for more than an hour.
John Kerr, 48, was charged by the Jay Police Department following the 7:54 a.m. crash. Kerr was the sole occupant of the pickup truck he was driving.
Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier said Kerr was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital after being extricated from his demolished 1985 Chevrolet truck by the Jay Fire Department.
Fournier said Kerr was complaining of chest pains after being removed from the wreckage. But a nursing supervisor at the hospital said Sunday night there was no one by that name listed as a patient in their facility.
Fournier said Kerr was driving northbound on Main Street in Jay, which is also Route 4, when his pickup truck drifted off the the right side of the road, hit several trees and rolled over, landing on its roof. Kerr was not wearing a seat belt.
Fournier said investigators believe Kerr may have fallen asleep at the wheel just before the crash. He added that police are awaiting blood alcohol test results.
Main Street in Jay was reduced to one lane for about an hour, according to Fournier.
