Summer breakfast July 18

WATERFORD — The second in a series of four summer breakfasts will be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, in the Wilkins Community House at the foot of Plummer Hill Road just off the Waterford Town Common.

A tradition spanning 59 years, the breakfasts offer a menu of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, freshly made muffins, donuts, orange juice and coffee. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 10, and free for children under 5.

Upcoming breakfast dates will be Aug. 1 and 15. The proceeds from the breakfasts contribute to the maintenance of the Wilkins Community House.

The indoor yard sale in the Wilkins House basement will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. on the days of the breakfasts. New items appear at each sale. Proceeds from the sale go to the Building Improvement Funds of the Wilkins House and the Waterford Congregational Church.

Thrifty Gift clearance sale

SOUTH PARIS — A Clearance Sale will take place at The Thrifty Gift Shop at 659 Park St. The sale begins Thursday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Saturday, July 21. Lots of clothes and all sizes. All items priced between 10 cents and $1. For more information call 257-7072.

Stone-Smart yard sale

NORWAY — Stone Smart Post 82 American Legion of Norway will hold a yard sale on Route 26 between Tractor Supply and Walmart on Friday and Saturday, July 20-21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Food will be available. Items include a pair of water skis manufactured by Paris Manufacturing in great condition; own a piece of local history. There will also be tools, a TV (HD), records and many other items. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket for a 2012 Chevy Sonic, sponsored by the Western Maine Veterans’ Advisory Committee.

‘Santa Visits Oxford’ sale

OXFORD — The Santa Visits Oxford group will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 20, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Parts n Pieces, 515 Main St.

The group helps to make sure all kids have a good Christmas. Members attend various functions at Christmastime and ride around so all the kids can see Santa on his sleigh.

Storyteller, mime to visit

PARIS — The First Congregational Church Youth Group, in honor of the church’s 200th anniversary, is hosting Antonio Rocha, storyteller and mime, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 20.

The Youth Group is extending an open invitation, free of charge, to children, teens and adults in Oxford County to attend Antonio’s “Moral Tales from Around the World.”

The family event offers the opportunity to laugh, learn and be engaged in age-old stories.

Rocha, born in Brazil, came to Maine on a cultural exchange program. He learned mime and storytelling at Celebration Barn Theater. He performs all over the world. Currently he and his wife, formerly of South Paris, live in Gray.

World’s Fair teen events

WATERFORD — This year there will be two new events for teens to participate in at Waterford World’s Fair. The first event is a Junior Woodsman demonstration which will start at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the show ring.

Forestry students from Oxford Hills High School will give a demonstration on some of the lessons that they learned while working in the classroom and in the forest.

The second event will be a Teen-Man Contest which will start at 5 p.m. also in the show ring. This event is open to any individual, male or female, who is between the ages of 12 and 20 years. The first place winner will receive $100, second place $50 and third place $25.

This events has several different challenging things to do such as pushing a wheelbarrow filled with dirt, moving a pile of wood from one place to another, lugging two pails filed with dirt, etc. and it is a timed event. The He-Man contest has always been one of the crowd pleasers so the Waterford World’s Fair decide to let the teens have a try.

The fairgrounds are on Green Road in North Waterford, just off Route 35 across from Melby’s.

‘Famous’ chicken pie supper

HARRISON — The Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church will hold its “famous” chicken pie supper Saturday, July 21, at the church in Bolsters Mills Village. Seatings will be at 5 and 6 p.m., with a third to follow at 7 if needed.

The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Dinner includes chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, rolls, homemade dessert and beverage and is served family style. Although accommodations will be made to try to not turn anyone away, it is recommended that reservations be made the morning of the supper between 9 and noon. The church is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

Reverse disease naturally

OXFORD — An educational seminar that teaches how to escape and reverse disease naturally will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at the Oxford Seventh-Day Adventist community building, 256 Fore St.

Presentations by Dr. John Clark will provide knowledge of natural health, based on scientific evidence, clinical and personal experience. There will be time for questions and answers. There will also be food demonstrations with recipes and samples.
