DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the person looking for a restaurant in the Twin Cities that serves homemade pies (July 7), Uncle Moe’s Diner is just outside of Lewiston. We serve a variety of homemade desserts and meals.

Just to name a few of our desserts: butterscotch cheesecake, chocolate chip cheesecake, chocolate cream pie, coconut cream pie, strawberry rhubarb cobbler, apple crisp, bread pudding and many more.

Our hours are Monday to Wednesday 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday to Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Hope this is helpful, and you are able to come visit us at Uncle Moe’s Diner.

Thank you. — Staff member at Uncle Moe’s Diner

ANSWER: Sun Spots went to Uncle Moe’s Facebook page and found the address: 61 Sabattus St., Sabattus, 375-4055, along with more details about the menu.

The reader inquring about pie was looking for an evening restaurant, which Uncle Moe’s provides three days a week. Are there any others out there?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Family from out of state is coming to visit, and I need to know who to call to get Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate-powdered doughnuts made for the duration of their stay. — L., Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots had this question before — people love those doughnuts! You should ask at your Dunkin’ Donuts store. Sun Spots has been told that they can get most, but not all, kinds of doughnuts. You should order before 1 p.m. for the following day.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Here is the recipe for Best Potato Salad from Marjorie Standish’s yellow cookbook (June 30 request). I have both her books, and she was a friend of mine years ago. Hope this will help you. — Cecile, Lewiston

ANSWER: Thank you, Cecile, and all the others who sent Sun Spots that much-loved recipe. Down East Books graciously allowed the recipe to be printed in the column. It appeared July 6. You can get it online at sunjournal.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like the recipe for no-bake cookies with the chocolate Chinese noodle. Thanks. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots has never heard of such a thing. Hopefully other readers have and will help you out.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I thought to let you and the readers who inquired know that a plant that will protect from moths but not harm like mothballs is growing well. It is a natural repellent. They are off Main Street in Wilton near Firehouse Video across from Food City. — Heidi, Dryden

ANSWER: Heidi named the plant, but Sun Spots couldn’t make out her handwriting. Hopefully, the description of the location will supply adequate information for harvesters to find the plant.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank the readers for their generosity to Turner Elementary School for sending their Box Tops for Education.

Even though it’s summer, we are still collecting. If you have any Box Tops or Campbell soup labels that you would like to donate to our school, please mail them to me at 5 Brookfield Estates, Turner, ME 04282. Thank you! — Laurie Labbe, Box Tops coordinator, Turner, laurie.labbe@willis.com
