NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Paul Eustace Brunelle Field Jr., 82, of Franklin,Tenn., died on May 9, after a long illness.
He was born in Manchester, N.H., March 12, 1930, to Paul E.B. Field and Emma Gertrude “Gertie” (Geilear) Field. The family moved to Auburn when Paul was a young child. He attended the Auburn Public schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1948. He went on to attend Bates College for 2 years before enlisting in the Navy, serving in the Atlantic Fleet as a radar man during the Korean Conflict.
Paul married his high school sweetheart, Lois Ann Haskell, in 1952. Paul worked for the JCPenney Co. for a number of years, but spent most of his working years as a successful real estate broker in Scarsdale, N.Y. He and his family lived in a variety of states, but mainly in New York, Alaska, and Maine.
Paul was a Rotarian (past president and Paul Harris Fellow recipient) for more than 30 years. He also served as deacon and trustee of the Scarsdale Congregational Church.
Paul loved music, and played the harmonica, piano, and organ. He loved to sing and dance, once playing the role of “the tap dancing scarecrow” in the “Wizard of Oz.”
Paul was a student of the humanities, spoke French and Italian, knew his Latin, loved to travel and loved and participated fully in life. He was an amazing storyteller and collected friends until the very end.
Paul leaves two sons, Stephen Haskell Field and Andrew Paul Field; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Field Howe and Rufus Scott Howe; a brother, Richard (Mardi) Field; a sister, Marni Geilear-Field; and three grandchildren, Christopher Paul (Kaitlin Doherty) Howe, Sgt. Gregory Scott Howe (USA), and Mary Kate Field.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Lois Ann (Haskell) Field.
