Potluck picnic July 24

HEBRON — All members and friends of the Hebron Historical Society are invited to its annual potluck picnic on Tuesday, July 24, starting at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Society’s new home at 358 Paris Road.

Those attending are urged to bring a dish and lawn chairs. Entertainment will be furnished by member Darlene Glover and her singing group, “Four on a Match,” who will sing a selection of vintage mid-20th century vocal arrangements.

Society meeting on fiber arts

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will be holding their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27. The program will be provided by Sally Harney, who will be demonstrating the spinning wheel, making roving, locker hooking and basic felting.

Ladies Circle bean supper

PARIS — A baked bean supper sponsored by the Ladies Circle will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, at First Congregational Church.

The meal includes baked beans, hot dogs, casseroles, salads, brown bread, cheese biscuits and homemade pies.

The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Yard sale benefits church

BETHEL — A multi-family yard sale at 153 Paradise Road will be held to benefit the work of West Parish Congregational Church, UCC on Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, from noon to 3 p.m.

Motorcycle ride benefits vets

LEWISTON — The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Chapter 17-1, will hold a fundraising ride Saturday, July 28, to benefit veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The proceeds will help pay for veterans and their families to attend Camp Kiev on Damariscotta Lake in Nobleboro, where veterans and their families can relax and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities free of charge. This is the second year of the program at the camp, which is also known as Camp Wabis.

The association-sponsored ride will begin at 10:30 a.m. at L-A Harley-Davidson, 839 Main St., and end nearly 40 miles later at Camp Kiev. Anyone interested in participating is welcome. The cost is $20 for motorcycle and driver and $10 for passengers.

Union Church blueberry fest

LOCKE MILLS — A Blueberry Festival will take place from Saturday, July 28, at the Locke Mills Union Church, from 7:30 to 11 a.m., or until sold out.

Available will be blueberry pancakes, sundaes, pies, baked goods and blueberries.

Paris Library used book sale

NORWAY — The Paris Public Library is holding its annual used book sale on Saturday, July 28, with a bag sale following on Saturday, Aug. 4. The sale will again be in the Old Paris Farmers’ Union building, at the corner of Main Street (Route 26) and Skilling Avenue, and will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.

Proceeds from the book sale are used to purchase children’s books for the library’s collection. Last year’s sale raised more than $2,800.

Donations for the sale are always welcome and are collected year-round. Contributions may be dropped off at the library whenever it is open, or arrangements may be made for books to be picked up. All contributions are first reviewed for possible inclusion in the library’s collection.

On the regular sale dates, hardcover books sell for $1 each, trade paperbacks cost 50 cents each and the price for mass market paperbacks is 25 cents each. During the bag sale, a standard plastic grocery bag may be filled for $1.

Sale benefits student trip to China

PARIS — A yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Oxford Hills High School, to help raise funds for students who will be representing the school on a two-week trip to China in April.

West Paris Library book sale

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Public Library will hold its annual Summer Book Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Universalist Church on Main Street.

A wide selection of used books will be available for purchase, including some recent best sellers as well as some older classics, in either hard cover or paperback editions. There will also be children and young adult books, videos and DVDs.

Those attending the sale are encouraged to stop in at the library to see the latest art exhibit, photographs and drawings by Milt Inman of Greenwood. Library hours are from 1:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday and Friday, 1:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call the library at 674-2004.

Minot Grange’s Italian Night

MINOT — An Italian Night supper will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at West Minot Grange Hall, to benefit the Hebron Historical Society building fund.

Cryptogram challenge July 30

PARIS — Winners of June’s Paris Public Library’s Cryptogram Challenge were Beverly Kerry, first place; Helen Jackson, second place; and Phyllis Dow, placing third.

The next challenge will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30. All ages are welcome.
