Rockefeller of Greenwich, Mrs. E. W. McClave of New York and A.J. Earling of Chicago. Fishing is at its best in the little lakes at Poland Spring and many visitors are enjoying the fine sport. Besides learning to become firemen, members of the Danville Volunteer firemen’s Group have another job on their hands as was quite evident today at ground-breaking ceremonies for the town’s first fire station.  Seventeen Danville volunteer firemen will themselves erect the structure, which will eventually house the Auburn Fire Department’s Tank 1. Auburn officials are studying three proposals for developing a small piece of land on the city’s side of Great Falls into a public recreation area, according to Purchasing Agent Richard Gibson. The three-acre parcel, known as West Pitch, will be leased to the city by Central Maine Power Co. as part of the compensation for allowing the company to build a hydroelectric project on the Androscoggin River above Great Falls. “Once they start with the construction of the dam, they will give a long-term lease to the City of Auburn (for the land) and include $150,000 to turn this into a recreational area,” said Gibson.
