DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am interested in knowing personal trainers in the Lewiston-Auburn area who specialize in working with people who need to lose weight. Or if there is a group of people, like a biggest loser group, whose goal is to exercise and lose weight? — No Name via email

ANSWER: Some fitness clubs, such as Planet Fitness in Lewiston and Auburn, offer personal assistance, often at no additional charge if you are a member.

As for weight loss, how about Weight Watchers?

Readers will surely write in and let the column know of other options.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing to ask if you know anyone in the area of Lewiston-Auburn who does computer work. I am computer illiterate and need help to update.

I am looking for a new computer and will need help transferring items from the old to the new computer. I’m hoping to find someone that makes house calls and is not too expensive. My number is 783-5751.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently my mother saw a Sun Spots question regarding in-home computer repair services (or the lack of them) in the area. I wanted to let you know that there are some places in the area that offer this service. If a person is needing computer repair service, a good place to look is craigslist.com (under the computer services offered) or just do a search on google.com for listings of computer repair facilities in the area. Prices range from $30 to $120 an hour for the service, with a minimum charge for diagnosis/estimates. Parts or software are not included in that range and will increase the cost.

Just be careful who you trust with your personal information, insist on being present during the repair and ask questions. If you don’t understand why a user name/password is needed, then ask. If the technician is legitimate, they will explain why they need it. I would like to think that people are honest, but in this day and age I am also very aware of the risk of identity theft.

For the record, I also do these types of repairs ($25 for initial diagnosis and $25 an hour for the repairs) and have a long list of references stretching back many years. I also have a degree in Internet security that can be provided on request. — Christopher Anderson, christopher.rei.anderson@gmail.com, 402-4675

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for wedding items at a reasonable rate. White tent , white, purple gold and tulle and battery-operated white lights. If any of your readers can help me by listing their contact, this would be great. — melanmetoo@netzero.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In May 1946, my husband-to-be, Harold S. Moore, and I (then Clara Long from Pensacola, Fla.) visited Day’s Jewelry on Lisbon Street in Lewiston to choose rings for our wedding on June 1, 1946. We purchased our rigns and other jewelry there that day because Day’s was recommended by the Moore family and friends.

Last year, 65 years later, we returned to Day’s Jewelry in the Auburn Mall to get my watchband replaced. Neither a clerk nor her supervisor could find one as attractive as the original. The supervisor then offered to repair my original watchband. We were prepared to pay for this, but the supervisor said there was no charge.

Our hats off to Day’s Jewelry for their generosity. We thought others should know, too. — Clara Moore, Monmouth
