LEWISTON — New England Celtic Arts in conjunction with the 2014 World Acadian Congress will present internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Lina Boudreau at three Maine concert venues.
New England Celtic Arts director Phill McIntyre said Acadian performers will be featured over the next couple of years, leading up to the World Acadian Congress both through the Skye Theatre Celtic Series and the newly formed Crossroads International Celtic Festival.
Boudreau will launch and represent the Congress in the region, and will be featured in events beyond this initial tour.
She will take the stage at Unity Center for the Performing Arts in Unity on Tuesday, July 31; Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage on Wednesday, Aug. 1; and the Franco-American Heritage Center on Thursday, Aug. 2.
In the official words of the Congress: “The road to the 2014 World Acadian Congress will lead toward a rediscovery of our roots, allowing each of us to recapture our Acadian heritage. Beyond the borders that we share, northwestern New Brunswick, Northern Maine (USA), and the Temiscouata region of Quebec are united by our shared history and family ties.”
Boudreau is a native of Memramcook, a quaint French village in New Brunswick, considered the cradle of New Acadia. As a singer-songwriter, she is distinguished not only by the words she sings but by the tone of her beautiful voice.
She is one of the most popular singers of Acadian, Quebecois and First Nations music. Over the years, she has received much recognition, but one of the most memorable moments of her singing career was being asked to sing at the highly publicized baptism of Celine Dion and Rene Angeli’s son, Rene-Charles.
Boudreau has four CDs to her credit and is scheduled to release her fifth album this fall. She has participated in several major international events such as the G7, as well as various summits of la Francophonie, which took her to Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Guinea. She also performed in Morocco, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Tanzania.
Curtain is 7 p.m. at Skye Theatre and the Franco Center; 7:30 p.m. at Unity. A jam session is slated one hour prior to curtain at Skye and Unity. Tickets are $15 at the door. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2 in Carthage. The Franco Center is at 46 Cedar St. and UCCPA is at 42 Depot St., Unity.
