BELGRADE LAKES — On Friday, July 27, the Center For All Seasons in the Belgrade Lakes region will ring with the sounds of ?ddles and banjos when two bluegrass bands come together. Maine’s own The Sandy River Ramblers will host Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys, a Vermont band celebrating its 40th year.

The Plowboys have toured extensively in western Europe, Canada and the United States; and have released 12 albums, including their latest, “Fire In The Sugarhouse,” described by Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine as “a superb collection.”

Strong rhythm, soulful vocals and tight harmonies mark their sound, which features many original songs about the Northeast.

The Sandy River Ramblers have entertained Maine audiences since 1983. Making up the band are Stan and Liz Keach, guitar and bass; banjoist Bud Godsoe; virtuoso mandolinist Dan Simons and fiddler Jay Smith.

The Ramblers’ performance will feature many songs from their new CD, “Cry Of The Loon And Other Original Songs About Maine,” a collection of songs by Keach.

While many of the songs are solidly bluegrass, a few are not. “We shaped these songs according to what the song needs,” said Keach, a nationally known bluegrass songwriter.

“Some of the songs —?Up On Little Round Top? for instance, which is about the 20th of Maine at the Battle of Gettysburg, and ?The Brady Gang,? which is about a gangster who was gunned down by the FBI in Bangor in 1937 — are straightahead, uptempo ?ddle-and-banjo driven bluegrass songs,” Keach said. “?Lobsterman,? a tragic lost-at-sea story, is given a more folky treatment, because that seemed to be what the story needed.”

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for students and children; $20 for a family. Refreshments will be sold at intermission. The Center For All Seasons is on Route 27, on the shore of Great Pond, just south of Belgrade Lakes Village.
