LEWISTON — The deadline for applications for the First Class Scholarship for Adults has been extended to Friday, July 27. These scholarships provide adults who have never taken a college course or who have not been enrolled in college for many years one tuition-free course and academic support throughout the semester. These awards are designed specifically for adult students, age 25 or older, who are living or working in Androscoggin County to cover the costs of their first college class ever or after a significant gap in attending college.

To learn more and to download an application, visit the College for ME-Androscoggin website at www.collegeformeandroscoggin.org.

Scholarship recipients will automatically become members of the First Class Adult Cohort Program. This group will meet twice a week in the month before the courses start to help students prepare for and succeed in this first course and twice a month during the class to check their progress and benefit from continued support.

Sessions will focus on technology, study skills, financial aid, student academic support services and course selection and registration. Cohort advising will help these adults transition into further post-secondary study. Group members who complete the program and succeed academically in their class will be celebrated at College for ME-Androscoggin’s annual awards luncheon.
