Red Claws clinic to visit area

FARMINGTON — The Maine Red Claws third annual summer clinic series will continue next week with stops in Farmington, Thomaston and Auburn before concluding the summer schedule in Lisbon Falls.

The 90-minute free clinics will be led by Red Claws point guard Kenny Hayes and former Red Claws forward Eugene Spates and will teach basketball fundamentals to children of all ages. The events will be held at select Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.

All of the clinics will begin at 10 a.m. No preregistration is necessary. Further information can be found at www.maineredclaws.com.

Clinics will take place on Monday, July 30, at 636 Wilton Road, Farmington; Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 800 Minot Ave., Auburn; and Thursday, Aug. 2, at 583 Lisbon St., Lisbon Falls.

Methodist yard, food sale

WILTON — The Wilton United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 on the lawn of the church. Muffins, blueberry pies, coffee and other beverages will also be available. On Saturday, a lunch of lobster rolls, other sandwiches, hot dogs and a variety of blueberry desserts will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barbecue at Congre. Church

WILTON —  A chicken barbecue will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at First Congregational Church, Main Street. Eat in or take out.

Menu includes cole slaw, roll, blueberry cake or ice cream with blueberry sauce. Quarter-chicken meal is $7; half-chicken meal, $8.50. For information, call 645-2535.

Jay Grange plans public supper

JAY — A public supper at the North Jay Grange No. 10 will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Menu includes baked beans, casseroles, salads, hot dogs, meatballs, beverages, desserts.

There will also be a craft table, quilt drawing and dinner music by the Narrow Gage String Band. Adults, $7; 10 and under, $3.

Bean hole supper for Lake Assoc.

NEW VINEYARD — The Porter Lake Association will hold its 43rd annual Bean Hole Supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Strong Beach on Porter Lake.

The cost is $6 for adults; $3 for children 5-11; under 5 free. The menu includes bean-hole baked beans, franks, rolls and beverages, and a wide variety of donated salads and desserts. Bring a salad or dessert to share.

The dinner supports activities beneficial to the lake, its users and the lake environment. Strong Beach can be reached from Route 234 (connecting New Vineyard and Strong) turning onto Pond Road and then right again onto Beanies Beach Road.

Fish & Game open house Aug. 4

WILTON — An open house at Wilton Fish & Game on Route 2 will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 4.

Emily MacCabe from Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife will hold a free workshop on basic archery. Equipment provided.

Trap shooting will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Bring your own ammo. Shooting gallery and Gatling gun, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hot dog and hamburger lunch available.

Nichols reunion was held

WELD — The annual Nichols Reunion of the descendants of the late Leon and Ceneretta Enzy Nichols, East Livermore, was held on July 15. Attending were Lois Seamon, Chesterville (oldest); Steve and Liz Jones, Bingham (traveling the farthest); Dana Nichols, Madison; John and Linda Nichols of Farmington with grandchildren Zinnia and Danny (youngest); Clark Leach, Farmington; Craig and Sarah Leach of Norridgewock with Tim, Chanler and Aiyana; and Walter and Donna Nichols of Wilton with Elizabeth, Michael, Jasmine and Joe. All attendees are the descendants of the late Alwyn Nichols of New Sharon, who was the second of 14 children born to Leon and Enzy.

A short meeting was held and it was voted to continue to hold the reunion at “The Grove” at Dummer’s Beach in Weld on the third Sunday in July.
